FACTS:
The different parts of the baby can be felt through your abdominal wall. If you feel a stitch-like sensation down the side of your tummy, this is the uterine muscle stretching. Sometimes resting helps alleviate this pain.
Small rehearsal contractions, called Braxton Hicks, may occur. These contractions massage the baby and help prepare your body for labour. You may not be aware of them at this stage.
TIPS:
If you haven’t already, book a dental check-up. Dental problems have a tendency to get worse during pregnancy as the hormones produced soften your gums leaving them vulnerable to infection. This has been linked to premature labour.
If you plan to bring your newborn home with you in your car, you are legally required in Australia to have an approved car restraint for your baby. The capsule is the most comon option and comes with a bolt to anchor it in your car. Make sure your car has the necessary anchor point. Recent car models have this facility.
Listen to your body. If you are really worried call your doctor, no matter how trivial your concern may seem.
